Seward Highway Alaska

Seward Highway Alaska is part of the states Scenic Highways and Byways that takes travelers between Anchorage and Seward Alaska and travels through a beautiful landscape that is popular with both residents and visitors to Alaska.

The scenes along the Seward Hwy change with the miles. From Anchorage, the highway passes along one of more visited attractions in Anchorage, Potter Marsh. Potter Marsh, located at the southern end of the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge along the Seward Highway, is one of the most accessible and scenic wildlife viewing areas in Alaska. Bird watching is popular here from springs thaw to falls freeze up.

Spawning salmon return here to the marsh every year. By taking a walk along the 1,550-foot boardwalk that provides access to the northern part of the marsh, one can view these mighty salmon close up and photograph them from the boardwalk above the water. This is a great perspective for both viewing and photographing what you see in the waters below.

Potter Marsh also offers pullouts along the highway for viewing and photography wildlife from your vehicle.

Just past the marsh on the right is the historic Alaska Railroad Museum and tourist information center. This is a fun stop and the old railcar makes for a great backdrop for taking family photos.
